![]() ![]() Speaking of the DLC, the two main packs included are actually pretty well done. This is a game that seems like it should be priced at $40, even with the included DLC. Even the PC version of the Definitive Edition is much cheaper, and players even get a bigger discount if they own the original. When considering the PC version is running for a much lower price, it is hard to swallow. Sleeping Dogs is an older title, and this new Definitive Edition is running full price on XB1 and PS4. The city does look better when compared to the old consoles, but it still cannot hold a candle to the smooth frame rates of the PC version. Walking or driving around the city causes it to dip below 30 fps, which is extremely disappointing. The frame rate takes hits more often than I would prefer. Sadly there are some hiccups with this version as well. No one would mistake this for a current generation game. The game looks great, well great by last generation standards. Taking a cue from the superior PC version, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions now have higher resolutions and much nicer textures. Of course the biggest upgrade to this version, at least on consoles, is the visuals. ![]() United Front games did a great job of making the normal side stuff actually matter. Every side mission or trinket is tied to upgrading Wei’s combat abilities or other attributes. Also the upgrade system makes finding collectibles actually mean something. The open-world is interesting, and I still love the dynamic between cop and criminal missions. The story is genuinely interesting, and Wei Shen is still one of the best protagonists of last generation. Taking on multiple foes is simple, and the environmental kills are as brutal as I remember. The combat is definitely the highlight of the package. The question is, is it worth the hefty price tag for a two-year old game?įor anyone who has yet to play Sleeping Dogs, the core game has held up fairly well. Now, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners can get in on the action with the Definitive Edition, which features some visual improvements over the previous console iterations, and of course the post-release DLC. A game that had been through development and publisher hell came out the other end as a pretty solid experience with a fantastic storyline. If the driving was cleaned up and Grand Theft Auto 5 didn't exist, it would be a 10 for sure.Sleeping Dogs was one of the most pleasant surprises of 2012. Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition gets a 9 for being a stellar game with a big flaw and not really adding anything new to the open-world crime genre. Its not explained how a car's class is decided, so I'm left to assume it's class is based on how cool it looks, which seems to be the case. Another weak point is that the cars in the game don't have visible stats, the closest thing in the game being a car's class. You will spent most of your time, when you're not fighting or doing missions, driving around.ĭriving is one of the game's weak points, as it feels hard to control, which can be frustrating when you have missions where your goal is to not hit anything. Since Sleeping Dogs is an open world game, transportation is paramount. The environmental combat is incredibly fun, and feels amazing to suplex someone onto a box, or slam a car door in someone's face. Fighting and grappling feels great and responsive. Sure you get a gun at some point, but most of the game is good ol' fist fighting. The main thing that separates Sleeping Dogs from other open-world crime games, like Grand Theft Auto, is that hand-to-hand combat is the main method of fighting in the game. They look as if you were looking through a camera lens with the contrast turned down. My only gripe is that the colors are a bit dull. This all makes the environments and city look and feel alive. The cars and people are rendered beautifully too. ![]() The amount of detail put in is amazing, to the point they made the reflection of objects on the cars bumper move with the environment. And as someone with a friend from China, I can confirm the accents are authentic. All Cantonese words used in the game are correct in translation, although that does cause subtitles to be a must. The actors are obviously real Cantonese speakers and make the game feel authentic. Wei Shen Blending Himself a Brains Smoothie His goal is to work his way up the organization, busting criminals as he goes, without getting arrested and/or revealing his true alliances to the police or the other members of the Sun On Yee. He's an undercover cop infiltrating a triad criminal group called the Sun On Yee. In the game, you play Wei Shen, a kind but troubled man. ![]()
